Inverloch Club Championships 2010

Club Champs Swim Start

This year’s club champs topped of an exciting and historical season for Inverloch. Beautiful sunshine mixed in with high competitive spirit allowed for a successful day ‘down at the beach!!!’

The club champs on Sunday 4th April was a fantastic way to finish off what had been a successful season for Inverloch. We had the highest number of competitors ever to take part in all events ranging from board paddles to 100m sprint; beach flags to open water swims. Age groups included U/15’s, U/18’s, Open and Masters in both Male and Female categories. And yes, you guessed it, the master’s competition proved the most enthralling races for the entirety of the day!!!

The Open Males and Females set the tone for a great day’s events, with early sportsmanship shown in the board paddle. They fought hard to win their event, however the countless amounts of high 5’s postrace ensured that the ‘INVY spirit’ would be the major focus of the day.

Our U/18 males had the highest number of competitors for the day as these boys fought like warriors to grab the title of club champion. Whilst our U/18 females had not as many competitors, they made up for it with great comradeship shown in every single event undertaken.

Often we get carried away with ‘who is winning’ and ‘who will win’ however it was fantastic to see and hear so many cheers and support from fellow competitors and the large crowd of family and friends who came down to watch for the day. This was particularly evident in our U/15 events as the focus was primarily on everyone having a red hot go and giving it their all.

Finally our masters showed that they are still a big part of INVY as they fought tooth and nail in every single event. These competitors proved that age is no barrier for fun, but as Cliff Smith happily quoted “If I was younger, my calf would have never been this tight!!”

A special thanks goes to Angela Malan and David Greenwood who played a huge role in running the events on Sunday. The competition would have not run without you, so thank you kindly. And our age group managers who worked tirelessly tallying results all day. Thank you also to all our competitors who made the day such as success. We are looking forward to next seasons club champs already!!!
