A Big Contribution to Inverloch from Thiess Degrémont

(18/06/10)

The construction contractor for the Victorian Desalination Project, Thiess Degrémont, has contributed $40,000 to the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club, taking the Club one step closer to fully funding its new $1.3 million Clubhouse.

Construction commenced on the new Clubhouse just after Easter and despite the recent wet weather, it is on schedule for completion mid December.

Club President, Philippe du Plessis, explained "the Clubhouse will provide for the operational and social needs of the Club and is crucial for it to continue to grow and to maintain its valuable community role of providing a safe beach environment & emergency rescue services for the Inverloch community & its many visitors.

The new facilities will replace the shipping containers from which it has operated for the past 12 years.

Philippe added "we are extremely pleased to announce this substantial funding contribution. This project has, and continues to galvanize many disparate recreational, environmental, economic and social community stakeholders. And with this generous contribution we have now managed to reduce the funding shortfall to less than $150,000.

He further explained "in addition to beach safety, the facility would serve as a quality venue for training lifesavers, other emergency services and many volunteer groups assist young people to become more capable and involved members of their communities; and provide for other multi-purpose usage opportunities".

Thiess Degrémont Project Director, Greg Miller, said he was pleased to represent one of many organisations making a contribution to an important community project.

"We've heard a lot about this Club," said Greg. "It's clear that a great deal of effort has been invested in getting this project off the ground and to securing funding from right across the community."

"It's obviously an important project for the community and we congratulate the Club on making it happen."

Philippe concluded by urging the extended community to assist in further reducing the $150,000 shortfall. He pointed out that the financial year is nearing an end and tax deductible donations or "Buy a Brick" pledges can be made and quickly claimed from the tax man.
